2024 Canadian Electric Utility Vehicle of the Year

The Genesis GV70 arrived two years ago and almost immediately became the luxury brand’s best-seller. This year buyers now have the option of the Electrified GV70, which keeps the same desirable small SUV package and adds serious power (483 horsepower) along with a near-silent ride.

Mazda continued its march upmarket this year with the all-new CX-90. This three-row SUV comes with not one but two new powertrains, including the Japanese brand’s first plug-in hybrid. With a high-end interior and mature driving dynamics, the CX-90 is aiming for the next class up.

Nissan was one of the first onto the electric scene with the original Leaf. The Ariya is the brand’s sophomore battery-electric effort, targeting the popular SUV segment with a combination of premium cabin with multiple powertrain and battery pairings.

Kia pulled off an automotive first in the 2024 EV9: the first three-row, all-electric SUV from a non-luxury brand. The EV9 is more than just an industry milestone, however: this boxy SUV brings new tech and convenience features to this hotly competitive segment. A large 99.8-kilowatt-hour battery pack affords the EV9 over 480 kilometres of range.

AJAC’s reigning Best EV in Canada returns to the shortlist for 2024. It’s little wonder: along with success both critical and commercial, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 provides retro-futurist style, a smooth all-electric drive, and a spacious, thoughtful cabin.
